How does one support his or her own learning? Are there prescribed steps that you can take to support your own learning? YES, firstly you need to identify your own strength and weaknesses. From here you can use the strengths you have to help you overcome your current weaknesses.

ReplyDeleteactually, my biggest weaknesses is i'm poor in vocabulary and grammar. to overcome it, i had challenged myself to read more english materials. for this time, i'm focussing more on novels and magazines since it is more interesting.. next time, i hope i'll develop my interest in reading academic articles since it is useful for a teacher-to-be like me.. apart from that, i'm practising speaking in proper english with my friends to overcome nervous..

ReplyDeleteatcually i poor in grammar. i try to improve my learning skill by reading a lots of academic text even though we know that many students do not like to read that kind of text. besides that, i read the Reader Digest to improve my grammar. other than that, i try to put an effort on making the graphic organiser after i do read some kinds of academic text. this help me a lot to improve in learning skill easily

Well,I feel like having no confident in speaking in English. I feel like I cannot pronounce the words good enough and I cannot speak as good as others.I got to think more than twice before I speak in English.When I talk in English, I am not able to keep the fluency and the grammatical errors continue to pop out.Besides, I cannot really read the academic text. I am quite fond to the English fantasy and adventure stories rather than the academic text.So, I keep reading the English stories but I don't know whether my English is improving or not.Thus, I think my greatest problem is least in confident and I don't know how to cope with it.

i think that my weakness is i am scared to talk in front of the class. i scared that i will said something wrongly in front of all our friends. my vocabulary is also not very good. so now, i will always read newspapers and story books in english to improve my vocabulary. reader digest is also very good for me... i will also try my best to talk english in class to build up my confident in talking english. i hope that i can over come my weaknesses in this five and a half years... i really hope i can do it...

ReplyDeleteI got some weaknesses in my studies. One for it that is I just have a little vocabulary in my mind. This made me gone through a tough process while writing the essays. Except this, my pronunciation also isn't good enough. For me, I think that my pronunciation is just the primary student's level.
I hope by putting more efforts in this two weaknesses can really improve myself.

ReplyDeleteI think basically, everyone of us are afraid to speak in English publicly due to lack of confidence. That's one of my weaknesses too. But my strength is that I'm willing to work hard ^^

erm... since I am studying a language course, I upgrade myself by doing a lot of reading, writing and listening. I read novels and also inspirational book like The Secret to motivate myself. I listen to songs and find out about the lyrics. I find this kind of learning interesting and fun.

Mr CCH..thanks for reminding me of commenting on your blog just now.Seriously,I forgot to do it.According to your question,I am supposed to post here about my weakness in learning process.First of all,my main weakness is my lazyness itself.I am pretty sure,if i am hardworking enough,I wouldn't be facing any problems in my learning process.Next,if i am told to read an acedemic text,i will surely not be reading it unless if i am told to read it under one's supervision.This is because i am lacking of interest in reading lenghthy acedemical texts.I am also lacking in self confidence sometimes.Since i am in language course now,i am putting lots of effort in order to improve my language skills and gaining interest in reading and communicating in english.First of all,i have started reading readers digest and some other acedemical reading books.Next,i am also communicating with my friends and lecturers in english.Apart from that,i am also gaining back my interest in joining public speaking and coral speaking competition by spending my time with my seniors who are participants of these competitions.I am also changing my lazyness habit.Nowadays i spent most of my time,surfing the net on texts that are related to language studies.

ReplyDeleteMy weaknesses is just like the other friends. I have lack of confidence to talk in front of the class especially while using English language. I try to overcome my problem by viewing a lot of video in YouTube related to English pronunciation and self confidence. Other than that, since you've teaching in my class, I'm started to read a lot of academic text. But, it takes time for my to practice it as a habit. To avoid from being boring, I've search for academic text from the internet. It attract me more than reading from a book. Lastly, I hope that you can continue giving us knowledge in order to become a great teacher one day. Thank you sir for your kindness :)

i also have weakness in this awesome language which i have very lack of vocabulary plus my grammar is very terrible and horrible. i do not have confident to speak in front.
so. better have something than nothing,now, i try to improve my english language by read a lot- reader digest, newspaper, magazines, advertisement,signboard,blog and net related to language studies,song lyrics and subtitle in movies. Then. i try to communicate with my friends using proper english..

Well, since being in the campus, I'm positive that I'm improving towards d better n i've been reading a lot of english novels these days to add up my vocabs. For me, my weakness is about how i stammer when I try to reply in English. But every now and then i found out then there's no need to be shy or embarrassed to speak. While we're talking, we're experiencing many new experiences in our verbal communication. So then, I try to change my weakness into being my strong point. Oh, and about academic journals.. I can hardly finish an article in a day, compared to reading some 300pgs novel. Once again, I need to try my hardest to build up my interest. I think that is all for now, thanks.

ReplyDeletehi! i'm najwa from tesl 1. i think i'm not fluent enough in conversation using English. sometimes i realize my mistakes just after i'd utter out the words and of course i'm feeling bad. before this i was afraid and chose to just keep quiet rather than to talk but lastly i knew that's wrong. we'll learn from the mistakes we've done. it's okay to be looked as a stupid person for a while when you're asking weird questions rather than you're pretending to be already smart as you feel shy to ask. don't ever bother about other people as long as u get what you really wanna know. i had the experience with my beloved mom when i pronounce something in the wrong way... it's all because i spoke up the word so my mom heard and corrected it. see!! i got the new lesson from that day by just ignoring my fear to speak in english. thanks Lord for the great fate ^-^

ReplyDeletemostly I learn a lot of English such as vocabs, grammar and pronounciation through songs and movies. Reading helps a lot too. I think 1 of my weakness is I dont have the courage to speak English publicly. I only speak English when I feel like it. Plus, I need quite some time to think of a perfect sentence when writing an essay. so that means I need loads of time when writing. :)

Replying to your post, I would say that people including me support their learning by multiplying their efforts on things that are compatible with their own habits of learning. Some people were good at writing than speaking itself. By writing, they can provide themselves with adequate time to prepare and organize the ideas brilliantly.
I rarely read academic text but I read a lot on sport articles and news especially on soccer. Those reading materials help to improve my language style, widening up my vocabulary and further my knowledge.
Speaking in public is the ghost of me. It's a spooky scene. Sometimes,the words didn't really came out. It's just the nervousness and false judgement that take on the show. Apart from giving some input to the audience, I just ended up blurring myself. Oh gosh !

ReplyDeleteI have my own style in improve my learning. I like to do mind map if I want to summary what I have read. It helps me a lot. I like to read the books that have many pictures inside the books. It attrack me to read it more.
Beside that, when reading I like to highlight the keypoint so that I know what I have read. It makes me more creative in reading.
In my learning, I love to learn with videos and pictures. Because I am a visual person. So I hope Mr.Choong help me in learning.

ReplyDeletehonestly, i am not really good in english especially using the good vocabulary. someone said that I shouldnt get good gred for my past exam bcause sometimes my english was not in order while speaking wth others using english .But I believe that there are people good in writing than speaking or vice versa or maybe good at both side.As a student I have to admit that I need to improve so that I can play my role as a TESL student as well as a future teacher.That is my strength maybe..can accept the truth and do the improvement.sometimes we need someone to make us realise our weaknesses..right sir..ngee~ I will try my best sir! I believe nothing impossible in this world as long as I put a lot effort to succeed.

ReplyDeleteactually i got some weaknesses in being good in English..i think that i have to improve lot more than all my friends since i feel like i'm the one who cannot speak well in front of the others compared to them. i really need to learn more in improving my language and also my vocabulary.. since i know that i'm really really weak, i've try some ways. i still remember, during one of our classes, you did told us that your English that you speak now was from Reader's Digest.. you told that you have improve a lot by reading Reader's Digest. so, i take the opportunity to read Reader's Digest if i have some leisure time. but sometimes, i don't really got time to do so. other than that, i also learn to improve my english from English songs that i heard. since before this i don't really interested in english songs, i just hear it sometimes when one of my friend who is really addicted to english song hearing it infront me. as the times flow, i started to feel that actually English song is interesting. however, i still can't maintain my learning process by using English song. so that, i try to learn to improve my vocabulary and language skills by learning from the words that everybody around me used. as example, from the lecturer, from my friends, and also from my family. sometimes i love to read something that i saw in English, as example, the advertisement on the highway. i also learn a lot from the articles that i found in the internet while i'm searching something for my coursework. so, there's many way that caan make me learn English very well. and for you sir, thank you for giving us the support to learn and try to read all those informative things like academic articles. i really enjoyed learning as i have a strong urge and spirits to learn more. thank you :)

I think myself is a slow learner.It is hard for me to cope the lessons easily,I need to ask my friends to repeat whatever had been told unless I really concentrate on the lesson.It is also hard for me to keep focus in class because my mind can easily fly away if I sit still.Besides that,I am lazy to do my work.I like to pile up all my homework until the date line is very close.At that time,when everybody can enjoy their time for doing homework early,I will start burning the midnight oil.The same goes during examinations days.People will do revision a few weeks earlier while for me,revision will be done one night before the exams started.Furthermore,I am a sensitive person.For this,I will look at the disadvantage of being sensitive.I am sensitive at the part where I can easily cry when I see someone cried.For me,this is a weakness because when someone is really easy to cry,they will be categorised as weak.However,I am also a patient person.I hope through this patience,I can use this to overcome my weaknesses.

Hello sir, I'm really sorry because I'm the last one who comment this post,I have some problem with my laptop and I have to borrow it from friend, I'm really sorry.. =( Back to the question, I admit that this is one of my weakness in learning. I think I have to be more alert about my assignment and I have to make a small remember notes so that it will help me to reduce this problem. Besides that, I am very lack of confident when talking in front of people. Maybe this is because I don't really good in English and I'm afraid of being wrong. Furthermore, I am a bit clumsy and nervous when doing work even I had prepare the notes to overcome my bad habit, I don't know why but I have to change my attitude because it will effect my career as a good teacher in the future. Besides that, I cannot cope with a lesson that is too formal because I'm easily feel boring. I love to have some games or something like visual or slideshow.It will help me to increase my attention to the lesson.
